Tadeusz August Kwasniewski
December 23, 1951- February 5, 2018

Passed away in the Ottawa Hospital General Campus on Monday morning, February 5, 2018, a few weeks after his 66th birthday, following an arduous and relentless struggle with a terminal cancer: multiple myeloma. Tad's memory will be cherished in the hearts of his wife, Elizabeth, his sister Maria, and his brother Richard. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Tad was born in Poland. In 1982, he and his wife made Canada their home, residing briefly in Montreal and Thunder Bay before settling down in Ottawa. For the majority of his professional life, Tad taught as a Professor of Electronics, at Carleton University in Ottawa. He was passionate about sharing his knowledge and experiences with young people who truly cherished his honesty, compassion, and insightful guidance.

He was endowed with a life full of gifts: an inquisitive mind, deeply engaging interests (from history and nature to the fate of minorities in Poland and antique clocks and radios) but greatest of all was his ability to share this wealth unflinchingly. He deeply loved life and people. He had a great desire to understand things, namely how they work, and how this manifested itself in the Universe and in the human mind. His presence was commanding, in part because of his prominent stature, and features reflecting a certain Slavic solemnity, but chiefly because of the gentle authority of his wisdom, and tenderness of heart whose warmth was felt at the turn of every sudden smile.

Tad endured months of unbearable pain and distressing symptoms with gentle equanimity. This suffering was subtly felt every time his voice faltered to a whisper. However, Tad stoically persevered in suffering, never submitting to despair. Even in his last weeks he could be caught letting out a chuckle among his friends and nurses. Full of genuine kindness, generosity and humour, Tad was a caring, unique and bright presence who left us much too soon after his challenging illness.

A visitation to celebrate Tad's life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre (2500 Baseline Rd. Ottawa). The funeral mass will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church (201 Lebreton St N, Ottawa). A private burial will take place at a later date.
