In Celebration of

Pietro Iveglia

November 26, 1933 -  June 18, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pietro at the age of 86 years. Devoted and loving husband to Marija (nee Sangaletti) for 59 years. Loving father to Peter (Jill) and Lorenzo (Carla). Loving grandfather to Anjelica, Cristopher, Kyle and Katrina. Nonno, we will forever and always remember your love for us, and all the special memories made will be kept close to our hearts. Predeceased by his father Petar, mother Ruza, brother Giovanni and sister Ruza. He now will be reunited and embraced with them. Pietro was born in Lastovo, Croatia. In 1951 at the age of 18, he came to Canada to start upon a new life. He began working out west in Calgary, Alberta in the coal mines. After a few years he came to Ottawa and became a painter. He was very athletic and played soccer for the St. Antony’s Soccer Club as a goal tender for many years. Then in 1961 Marija came to Canada where they finally married and just celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary. A true testament to ever lasting love and devotion. Pietro will forever be remembered and loved by his family. Until we meet again. RIP – Pa, Nonno. A private family service will be held at Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel. A donation may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Pietro’s memory.

We hope that the fond memories you have will get you through this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am so happy I was able to see Pietro when we visited Canada. I was able to see for myself why my father in law, Giovanni, loved his cousin so much.

I spent the day listening to my dad telling me stories of when he and Pietro were kids growing up on Lastovo. One of those stories was when Pietro went to the barber but wasn't sure how to discribe the haircut he wanted. So someone suggested telling the barber that he wanted a "zero". The barber nodded his head and gave it to him. At first, Pietro was pretty angry with what he saw in the mirror. A completely bald head! But true to his character, Pietro shrugged it off, made light of it and enjoyed his new hairstyle. I would hear that story every year or so for as long as I can remember. There is a lot to learn from Pietro's attitude towards life's lemons. My dad will miss their regular long distance phone calls tremendously.
May God give the entire Iveglia family the strength they need during this hard time.
