Mandaric, Metoda (Debeljak)
1938 - 2019

Peacefully passed away with family by her side on April 4, 2019 in her 81st year. For 60 years the beloved wife and best friend of Dinko Mandaric. Dear mother of Irena (Bruce) Kaye. Treasured grandmother of Tanya (Dave) Rowe and Kelly (Derek) Oswalt. She is survived by her loving sister Cirila Šolar. Predeceased by her parents Valentin and Marija Debeljak, and her brother Zdravko.

Metoda and her twin sister were born on July 4, 1938 in Slovenia. Metoda had many interests and happy adventures in her childhood years. As a young girl with an artistic heart, courageous spirit, and more than a little determination, she learned to rise above the adversity brought on by the loss of her father at the outset of the war. After graduating from high school, she moved from her family home in Lipnica to Piran, where she worked as a dental assistant. Her career path took a sharp turn when she decided to follow the young man who had captured her heart, across the Austrian border. Dinko and Metoda married in Austria and embarked on a journey that would bring them to Canada. Here they started their new life together, supported each other through the challenges of creating a new life in a new land, began their family, and made many cherished friends.

Metoda had quiet strength and a strong sense of entrepreneurship, running a successful hairdressing business for more than 25 years. She was an avid gardener and spent many happy hours in her beautiful garden. Metoda was an extraordinary cook, and brought together countless gatherings of family and friends. She was a kind and devoted mother. She loved her granddaughters, took delight in their early years and extraordinary pride in the women they have grown to be.

We will always remember her beautiful smile, her ready laugh, her warm hugs, and how much she loved us. We will miss her dearly.

We extend our most heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Granite Ridge, for their gentle and compassionate care of our dear Metoda.

For those wishing, in memorium donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family
