Lina Mowat
July 25, 1963 – September 30, 2019

With great sadness we announce the death of Lina Mowat (nee Santagati) in the early morning of Monday, September 30, 2019, aged 56 years. After 12 years quietly battling cancer, Lina passed away peacefully, knowing her best friend and husband of 30 years, David, and their three beloved children, Austin, Bridget, and Cameron, were by her side. Lina was the loving daughter of Annunziata and the late Francesco Santagati, the devoted sister of Francesca (Charles Morrison), and a most gentle aunt to Tina Bégin and Jacqueline Morrison, Alexandre and Eric Leger, and Charlotte Nicholson. She will be greatly missed by cousins, in laws, and extended family.

Lina worked at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada from 1981 to 1995, and again from 2010 until now, her last position being Parliamentary Relations Officer. The professionalism and judgement she brought to her working life was equalled only by her extraordinary dedication as the heart of her family and home. From 1995 to 2010, Lina displayed unbridled joy as a full-time fun-forward mom, making sure her loved ones always returned from the school and workday to a delicious dinner in a warm home filled with laughter and love.

Friends and family may call at Pinecrest Visitation Center, 2500 Baseline Road, on Sunday, October 6, from 1-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2340 Baseline Road, on Monday, October 7 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road.

Special thanks to Drs. Elizabeth Edwards, Xinni Song, Claire Dyason, and their assistants who took care of Lina over many years, as well as staff of 5 East - Ottawa General Hospital and Carefor, who provided comfort this past September.

To make a donation in Lina’s memory, please consider Breast Cancer Action Ottawa www.bcaott.ca or the Catholic Education Foundation of Ottawa www.cefo.org.
