James "Jim" Knubley

Jim Knubley, 91, died peacefully on Sunday, joining his wife of 66 years, Olive. Much thanks to all who supported him in his last months, especially Karen. He leaves behind Rhonda, John (AJ), four grandchildren as well as the extended Hall, Gormley and Knubley families. Jim was born in Montreal, growing up in Hampstead and attending McGill for chemical engineering. He loved people. Stopping at a gas station, for example, often led to long, enthusiastic discussions with strangers. He described his work as being a janitor. In fact, he employed many janitors as owner and manager of contract cleaning companies, including Modern in Ottawa and Focus in Denver. He had a wide range of jobs giving him opportunities to meet many — research chemist at Shell, sales for Remington Rand, city councillor in Ottawa, and the anointed “mayor” of Burritts Rapids. Dad loved all sports from hockey, football, squash (Rick and Denver Club), tennis, golf and skiing. Bridge was also a passion. He travelled with Olive to many places, times that always included art galleries. Above all he enjoyed family gatherings, the people around him and a good party. May Jim and Olive be reunited. Friends and family may visit at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 12 p.m. until time of Funeral Service which will be held in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment and reception to follow. Donations to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada would be appreciated.
