<div itemprop="description">Ellen Nowgesic<br>(June 1, 1964 - May 2, 2018)<br><br>With deep sorrow we announce Ellen Nowgesic, 54, peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday May 2, 2018.<br><br>Ellen was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario June 1, 1964, the daughter of Frederick and Deana Nowgesic. She is survived by her only son Nathan Nowgesic (Chelsie) her partner Dennis Windigo, and her sisters Connie (Kevin), Marilee (Carole) and her twin brother Earl (Donald). She also leaves behind numerous family and friends.<br><br>Ellen was predeceased by her father Frederick Nowgesic and mother Deana Nowgesic.<br><br>Ellen attended Carleton University and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She taught in Great Whale, Nunavut as an elementary art teacher.<br>She worked for the Assembly of First Nations and curated the work of the Norval Morrisesu Exhibit with Norval in attendance. She worked at the Norwest Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) as First Nation Liaison for the Northwest territory. Ellen would work for Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) as a speech writer for the Grand Chief. Her love for music included playing the flute for the Thunder Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra. An intelligent, brave and courageous women are only a few words to describe her. Ellen is an Eagle Clan member and citizen of Kiashke Zaaging/Gull Bay First Nation.<br><br>The family wishes to thank all those who cared for her during her illness. Visitation service will be privately held at the Cole Funeral Services, Ottawa, Ontario on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ellen’s name to the La Maison Mathiew-Froment Savoie Palliative Care Centre, 170 rue Sherbrooke, Gatineau, Quebec, J8Y 2L6.<br></div>
