In Celebration of

Cheryl Julia Godwin

May 3, 1961 -  June 17, 2020

On June 17, 2020, Cheryl Julia Godwin (nee Pender) lost her hard-fought battle with cancer, at the age of 59. She was the daughter of the late Frank Pender and Irene Pender (nee Martin). She was a loving wife to her husband of 35 years, Gord Godwin and the proud mother to Erika (Gary) and Kyle (Nicole). She was a proud hockey mom watching both kids have excellent hockey careers. Their #1 fan.
Cheryl was the beloved sister to Donna Macadam (Al) and Gary Pender (Debbie) and sister-in-law to Betty McVeigh (Cec), Ted (the late Diane), Howie (Linda), Ray (the late Joanne) and the best aunt to twelve nieces and nephews and a great aunt to ten amazing nieces and nephews.
Cheryl worked 35 years for the City of Ottawa and was a devoted dog lover. She is currently playing over the rainbow bridge with Brandy, Sami, and Brig, leaving behind Ollie to take care of Gord.
Cheryl spent her life loving and watching sports. She met her beloved Gord at an Ottawa 67's game, loved travelling to Elmira College to watch Erika play hockey in university until her love of football and baseball took hold. Cheryl’s favourite time of year was Spring Training where her and Gord would make a trip to Florida to watch the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays. Since Ottawa’s CFL team has returned Cheryl has been a Redblacks season ticket holder and was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan. Cheryl and Gord have taken trips to watch her beloved Ravens every Anniversary for last eight years.
Thank you to the amazing Doctors and Nurses at the Ottawa Hospital that compassionately cared for Cheryl as she battled melanoma. Donations can be made in her honour here: https://ohfoundation.ca/tribute-gift/. As Cheryl would say, "Don't forget your sunscreen!"
A private family service will be held with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.

Sending hugs and love to all who shared in our love for Cheryl. I only met her after I retired thanks to fb and we worked together in same place for 30 yrs! I am so glad and honoured to have met her finally. I will always remember my hole in one witnessed by Gord and Cheryl and that began our friendship. GOD seems to take the good ones early .Somehow knowing she is with her dogs is comforting. She did love them so. She had a wonderful laugh. Miss you already.
