Catherine (Irene) Hewitt
(September 16, 1940 to February 28, 2019)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Catherine (Irene) Hewitt, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, after a valiant 10+ year battle with cancer.

“You beat it once and you almost beat it again, cancer had no idea who it was up against, but we know you have many waiting for you on the other side”.

The love of her life, William (Bill) is not sure how this happened as he is left without the part that made him whole. They had been one for over 60 years.

Her beloved kids, Allyson (Dean); William (Lynne) and Michael (Colleen – her special angel) were so grateful for the 10 extra years with her. They were all by her side as much as was humanly possible in the past year and we were blessed to have made so many great memories.

“Mom, you were so damn loved and you gave it back in spades”.

Her grandchildren: Sydney (pre-deceased, her very own princess) and Bayley; Derek, Keegan, and Faith; and Tyler, Owen and Finn loved her and gave her the best gift ever, laughter. And she held her own with them. She was very sad about what she would miss but wow she loved those “quilts”.

Irene was one of a kind, despite being from a family of 11 kids, 9 of which are pre-deceased. She is devastated to leave behind her dear sister Jean to carry on.

Mom wanted us to thank not only her beloved family but her dear friends, affectionately known as LIPS; her neighbours; and the astounding medical teams at the OGH, QCH, Elisabeth Bruyere and CareFor. A special note of appreciation to Drs. Laurie and MacRae, Shannon and Lisa.

Please join us at the Pinecrest Crematorium on Baseline Road for a celebration of her life on Sunday March 10, 2019. Get together at 2 pm – speeches at 3 pm. Bring a memory or two to share.

“We were blessed to have you, we don’t know how we will go on without you, but you expect us to support each other so we will – we know not to mess with you! Loving you forever and see you on the other side”.

Mom and dad were big supporters of charity, so please consider making a donation to a cause you believe in, in her memory.
