It is with deepest sorrow we announce that, after a courageously fought four-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Bill peacefully passed away in his home on October 19, 2017.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Rebecca Wilson [nee Etherington], loving stepdaughters Candice Stephen and Samantha Stephen, grandson Jaxon Sparling, devoted sisters Mary Beresford [Jack], Ann Moodie [Jim], Margaret Curtis [Doug], and all of his incredible nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his cherished parents, father Harold Wilson and mother Dora Wilson [nee Thurston], and by his brother John Wilson.
Bill was born and raised in the area of Gananoque, ON, in the hamlet of Wilstead [named for his Wilson family]. He graduated from the Universities of Ottawa, Carleton and Waterloo, and went on to have a distinguished career in Ottawa with the Federal Government of Canada and held position of Policy Analyst with Public Safety. Upon retiring from the government in 2012, Bill enjoyed working part time with Rebecca in real estate with Royal LePage Team in the Ottawa area, and fully retired in 2015.
Among so many of his personal interests and accomplishments, Bill’s life-long passion for learning led him to being an insatiable reader of anything and everything!, an enthusiastic researcher of family history, his long-standing penchant for playing snooker with his best buddies, a talented musician, and his much-cherished woodworking hobby. Bill’s contribution to his community always entailed helping others, including his connection with the Canadian Blood Services and throughout his adult life, was able to donate in excess of 110 times with award recognition.
Bill’s final true-to-form selfless special request was that he be able to continue helping others by donating himself to the Faculty of Medicine University of Ottawa for the Advancement of Science and Medical Research.
Bill will be greatly missed by all of his beautiful family, cherished friends, and respected colleagues. He would wish that we remember him each in our own loving way.
The family will be holding a private celebration of life in memoriam.
In lieu of flowers, and for those who wish, memorial donations can be made to:
Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Association, http://cpff.ca/
