YOUNG, Alys Vere (née Lindon)
1920 - 2012
Vere Young passed away peacefully in her sleep at Granite Ridge nursing home on Feb. 26th. The family will be having a memorial service on March 17th at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. The immediate family will be at the funeral home by 1:00 pm on that day to welcome visitors. The service will begin at 2:00 followed by afternoon tea. Special thanks to the caregivers on Heritage at Granite Ridge for their dedicated care.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Vere met her husband, David Young, while he was training to go overseas with the RCAF. They married upon his return in 1945 and lived in Vancouver, where the children were born, and in Edmonton before settling in Ottawa. Dave passed away in 2002. Vere will be sorely missed by her four daughters: Daphne (Red), and Margaret of Ottawa, Valerie (Henk), of New Zealand, and Sandra (Allan) of Pincourt, Quebec.
Vere was a loving Oma to Jesse and James, Stephanie, Jonathan and Bryson, and to her great-grandchildren Ben and Tyler, Grace
and Wyatt. She was an active member of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church and the IODE for over 40 years. Vere and Dave enjoyed golf, curling at the Granite Curling Club, bridge, and after Dave's retirement from Agriculture Canada, relaxing in the cottage they built on Lac George, Cawood Quebec. We will always remember her for her constant support to her children and an engaging smile that reflected her zest for life.
