His parents over came great personal
risk and challenge to get Van and his sister, Marith, out of Cambodia and eventually to Canada in 1981.
Van and his family began their lives in Canada in Deep River, then Renfrew, and eventually Ottawa with
the support of some incredible community sponsors. Van attended Queen Elizabeth Public Elementary
School in Renfrew, and later to Pinecrest Public Elementary School and Laurentian High School in
Ottawa. Van worked at Mitel, PC Cyber, and Absopulse.

Hard core gamer, foodie, partier, animal lover, avid gardener, a good friend, and a beloved son are a few
of the words used to describe him by those closest to him. While Van had a inseparable bond with all
things computers, his friendships were even stronger as was seen by all the love and support that
poured in during his last few weeks with us all. His hard-fought word during his difficult last days,
“Wow…,” summed up his awe and appreciation for this show of love and support and he was grateful
to everyone that these were to be his last memories before he moved on.

Vanthok leaves behind his parents, Sareap and Thon, sister and brother-in-law, Marith and Andrew
(Kull), his niece and nephew, Mia and Evan (Kull), foster brothers, Savy Chim, Mark Mielke, Mike
Roberts, and a huge extended family in Cambodia that cared deeply for him.

Vanthok called upon his childhood best friend Eric (The Red) Nichols, to
see him through to the end and that is why he called him brother.

Van loved his Cambodian and Buddhist heritage so it is with great honour that on Thursday August 1 st
from 9:00am to 1:00pm his Buddhist Dana will be performed (for those who want to attend) by The
Ottawa-Hull Cambodian Buddhist Association Inc. at Watt Ratanakpratib (5883 Hazeldean Road,
Stittsville) - Buddhist Prayer and Food **Vans body will not be present**
