Born in Saint John New Brunswick, she was the daughter of Medley MacBeth and Selina Toole, and the older sister of Medley (Verbena). Beloved wife of George Patrick for over 40 years until his death in 1989. Loving Mother of Ron (Charlane), Stephen (Nancy), Patrick (deceased in 2004), and Rob (Carolyn). The best Nana ever to Christina, Jasmine, Keith, Bryan (Malyna) and David (Cheryl) and to her wonderful great-grandchildren: Braeydon, Stesha and Riley . A special thank you for the care provided to her by her friend and personal support worker Maria Robinson, her granddaughter Christina, and Charlane Mackenzie. The staff and residents at Fairfield Manor provided her with a loving home for the past three years, and West End Villa staff gave her compassionate support over the last few days.

Sylvia had a full life focused on caring for her family, friends and others. In her earlier years, she worked at the Halifax office of the Canadian Navy, receiving coded messages from the convoy fleet—an important contribution to the World War II effort.
