<div itemprop="description">HANNINGTON, Shirley Marie (MacDonald), RN <br>Graduate of Victoria General School of Nursing, Class of 1954 <br><br>It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley (née MacDonald) on March 3, 2020 at the age of 87. Shirley was born on April 20, 1932 to the late Jean (née Arthur) and James MacDonald of New Glasgow, N.S. She was the cherished wife of the late Colonel Fred G. Hannington for 60 years until his passing in 2014, and loving mother of Fred (Ruth), Steven, deceased (Gail), and Mark (Elizabeth). She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Veronica, Steven, Annemarie, Daniel, and Alex. She was predeceased by her brothers James and Donald and is survived by her brother Robert F. MacDonald, sister Judy Boyd and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley trained as a nurse at the Victoria General in Halifax and graduated as a RN in 1954. She and Fred travelled the world during and after Fred's military career, with many homes in Montreal, Toronto, Germany, and Belgium. They eventually settled in Ottawa where they continued many life-long friendships. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 22. A reception will be held after the service, and inurnment to follow in the gardens. Donations in Shirley's memory can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.</div>
