In Celebration of

Robert George "Bob" Mustard

December 8, 1933 -  November 17, 2020

Cdr. RCN (Retired)

After a short battle with Lung Cancer, Robert (Bob) Mustard of Kanata passed away at home on November 17, 2020 at the age of 86 years. Bob was born in London, Ontario and was raised in Leamington Ontario by his adoptive parents. As a teen Bob joined the Navy which began a lifelong love of the sea. After joining the Navy he studied Electrical Engineering at UBC. Bob served in the RCN for 31 years after which he spent more than 10 years in industry related to the Navy. After retirement, Loretta and Bob travelled the world to continue his adventures that began in the Navy. Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Loretta (nee Mitchell), his loving children Gary Mustard and Jennifer (Joe) Schuett, and his beloved grandchildren Mark, Peter, and Krista Schuett. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Fred Mitchell and sister-in-law Marlene Mitchell. He is predeceased by his daughter Marilanne, his sister Verna, and his parents. Those who knew Bob were sure to hear one of his many stories, one of his jokes, or hear him sing a song. He was very musically inclined and played several brass instruments and was a wonderful singer. He was a voracious reader, loved astronomy and listening to jazz and big band music. He never refused a cup of coffee and loved to chat with anyone who would listen. He was a hardworking intelligent man with a quick wit, and he will be missed. Bob's family would like to thank the outstanding nurses and staff at the Timberwalk Retirement Community, the health care workers for their kindness and support, and Dr. Kobaisy for her care at the end of his life. A service will be held at a later date. Donations in Bob's name can be made to the RCN Benevolent Fund (rcnbf.ca) or the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation (ottawacancer.ca/donate). Condolences can be left at colefuneralservices.com.

“Bob, your family will proudly keep your stories alive. Fair Winds and Following Seas. You stand relieved, we have the watch.”

I'm remembering all the stories you told us from the days you were on the ship and always having a new joke every time we met. You were a man who stood up for the rights of others and a person others could count on when they needed you. May you be in a better place now without pain... God bless you Bob, may you RIP!
