BYRNE, Richard William

March 5, 1950-May 29, 2020

With hearts full of sadness, we announce Dad’s peaceful passing at home, surrounded by family, at the age of 70.

Beloved husband of 41 years to Ginny (nee Grierson). Cherished father to Alex (Ashley), Kathryn (Jason) and a treasured grandson Darwin, who brought him great joy, as did the news of a second grandson arriving in July. He will be greatly missed by many family members and in-laws around Canada and the U.S.

A Master Plumber licenced since 1978, he retired in 2018 as the sole owner of his company after many years of hard work and dedication to his clients.

Dad was a car enthusiast, especially passionate about NASCAR racing, and was proud of his 1963 Corvette, spending over 30 happy years racing, showing and touring with his club. A loyal friend to many over the years, he will be remembered fondly for generously sharing his time and his talents with others, as well as for his quick wit and sense of humor.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Andrew Douglas for his exceptionally warm and sympathetic care towards Dad and our family. A special appreciation for the tireless hard work and caring attentiveness of the PSWs and nurses of St. Elizabeth and At Home Hospice- especially to Laila and to Lual, both angels brought to our family in our time of need. A big thank you to Karen, our care coordinator and a constant comforting source of support throughout our journey.

A private service has been held and donations may be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Integrated Cancer Centre, or a charity of your choice.

We will miss Rick deeply. Our most favorite memories are of touring the cars at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Birmingham, Michigan. He was funny and loving and we shared many hilarious jokes. Life is always too short for the ones we care about, and I hope some day we will be together again in a better place.
