LCdr (Retd) Peter Tuckwell Sabiston
1952-2017

After a brief illness, surrounded by family, Peter Tuckwell Sabiston died peacefully on June 16, 2017. He was 64.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Ian; his daughter, Heather (Mike Ip); his mother, Mary; brothers Paul (Cathie) and Keith (Sharon Rothwell); his sister Susan; his sister-in-law Kathy Wheeler (Roy) and his nieces and nephews. He was delighted to be a great uncle to three. He was predeceased by his father, Donald.

Peter leaves behind many friends and many more vivid stories. He played football at Woodroffe High School and Queen’s University, travelled the world while serving in the Canadian navy, and earned a master’s degree from Royal Roads University. He loved paddling and the outdoors, and built his own cedar strip canoe. Peter retired in March 2016 from a long career in the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

Peter will be remembered for his big heart, his pranks, and his ability to fix or build nearly anything.

Barb, Heather, Mike and Ian thank the many family members, friends and neighbours for their kindness, support and generosity over the past months. They also thank Kathleen and Gina at Bayshore HealthCare for helping to keep Peter at home for as long as possible and the amazing staff at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital, especially nurses Laura and Julie, for taking such excellent care of Peter.

Peter’s life will be celebrated with a reception at Amberwood Lounge & Eatery on June 29, 2017, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. A private burial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Bruyère Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
