STANTON, Patricia Mary (née Griffin)
June 11, 1923 – August 16, 2017
Our beautiful and gentle Mother, Patricia, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mom is now reunited with the love of her life our Dad, W.J., who predeceased her in 2001. Mom was the loving and dearly loved Mother of Carolyn Johnston (Arthur), Colleen Barr (Ron), Paul (Shannon), Elaine, Sharon and Neil. She treasured her five grandchildren who admired and loved her in return: Greg Johnston (Natasha), Melissa Johnston (Dwight Montgomery), Amanda Straus (Kevin), Candace Grinnell (Joey) and Kara Adjokatcher (Ish). Mother delighted in the arrival of and regular stories on the activities of her great-grandchildren: Ewen, Wade, Ben, Nora, Sage, Nolan, Emily, Isaiah and Jalen. Patricia was the eldest of seven children of John and Genevieve (Kennedy) Griffin. She is survived by her sisters: Hortie Stanton (late Lawrence), Joan Bak (late John) and her sister-in-law Connie Griffin (late Michael). Mother was granted her Teaching Diploma (French and English elementary) in 1942 after which she began a long and rewarding teaching career. She and Dad married in 1946 and raised their six children in Quyon, Quebec where mother taught at St. Mary's School. Eventually she rose to the position of principal of St. Mary's. Mother and Dad enjoyed their lives together for many years in the Quyon community, moving to Ottawa in 1999. She was a beautiful woman in every sense of the word. Her wisdom, generosity of spirit, and respect for each and every person were reinforced by her strong yet gentle character which was anchored in a deep religious faith. She had a special devotion to Our Lady. Mother was the ultimate teacher both in her career and her personal life. She taught us and everyone she met what it truly means to "live your faith". Mother was allowed to remain in her home for many years with the support of her wonderful family physician Dr. Mary Comerton who also helped both Mom and our family walk this final journey. We are grateful for the many caring "angels" who assisted Mother throughout these years - our special friend Ena, community home care support services, especially Ginet, Avalina and Shelby. The family also appreciates the dedicated nurses and other health care providers who assisted Mother in these past few weeks. We will miss Mom and treasure her always. We are forever grateful to God for the privilege of having this incredible woman as our Mother. Friends are invited to visit at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Sunday, August 20, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at St. Martin de Porres Parish, 3891 Old Richmond Road, Nepean, on Monday, August 21, at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow Mass. Interment at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Quyon, QC.
