NADA STOJANAC
(née Vlah)
STOJANAC, Nada Ph. D. 1935-2019 Passed away in Ottawa, on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Beloved wife of almost 60 years to Žarko, beloved mother of Milena and Vedrana (Hagen). Gracious and brilliant, kind, strong and always ready to laugh, Nada will live on in the memories of her great friends Stanka Stavrić, Lidia Duvnjak and Rada Radojičić and her former colleagues in the Department of Chemistry at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick and around the world. Born on the island of Krk, in Croatia, Nada studied at the University of Zagreb where she earned her Ph. D. in organic chemistry in 1965. She spent her career as a highly inventive and respected research scientist at UNB, where her total synthesis of the compound quassin was considered a model of the genre, with a brief period at ETH Zürich during Žarko’s sabbatical. Upon her retirement, she and Žarko moved to Ottawa where they had worked at the beginning of their careers. The years at her home in Centrepointe were ones of happiness, working in her garden, travelling, enjoying time with her neighbours and attending concerts at the NAC. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to a Service in Memory of Nada on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, at 2:00 p.m., with reception to follow. The family is grateful for the love and support shown to Nada over the years, and wishes to thank the staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and The Westwood Retirement Residence.
