In Celebration of

Lilyan Lois "Joan" Walker

December 2, 1932 -  July 1, 2020

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom and grandma, on July 1, 2020 at the age of 87 years. Devoted and cherished wife of 65 years to the late Eric 'Bruce' Walker. Loving mother of Nancy (Stephen Fenn), Alan, Heather and Wendy. Proud grandma of Jasmine Rebecca Fenn, and Julia, Daniel and Laura Walker. Predeceased by her young son, Robert 'Robbie' Francis, whom she loved dearly and is forever held close to her heart. Predeceased by her loving parents, Robert 'Bert' Heeney and Rebecca 'Retta' Delmer. Also predeceased by her 'big brothers' and their wives: Blair (Inez); Del (Pat); Wes (Lou); and Lyle (Ruth), and her sister-in-law Beverly (Dave Campbell). Survived by many nieces and nephews.

All who knew Joan will treasure memories of her kind and caring nature, her warm and pleasant personality, her bright and welcoming smile, and her devotion to her family. Her greatest pride and joy were her children, whom she loved to spend quality time with. Joan lived a Christian life and attended Britannia United Church initially, Sharbot Lake Pentecostal Church and the Kanata Life Centre later in life. She had an affinity for nature and the outdoors (including camping, canoeing and snowshoeing), and she loved to bake, host and attend special family dinners. She will be forever remembered for the 'huge spreads of baking and goodies' prepared for her annual Christmas Eve 'Open House'. The family wishes to thank the West End Villa for their excellent assistance and tender loving care over the last two and a half years.

A private funeral service was held at Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, on July 6, and inurnment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.colefuneralservices.com.

My siblings and I have been truly blessed with having a Mom who had many spiritual gifts. She was 'salt of the earth', humble, gentle, kind, warm-hearted, demonstrative with her feelings, and loved being our Mom more than anything else in this world.

She loved us all unconditionally and told us all, right up until her final days, how much we all mean to her... that her family was 'everything to her', and that she 'couldn't love us more if she tried'. Both Mom and Dad did their very best to give us the best life possible... without expectations... and with oodles and oodles of unconditional and unwavering love and support.

We are blessed to have been loved so much, and to have them in our lives for as long as we did. They loved us for who we were as people.... not for what we did for a living, or how much we earned, or what our social status was. They simply loved us... pure, unconditional and unwavering love. They allowed us to become who we were destined to be... without interfering in our 'becoming process'.

They were not materialistic, nor were they overly impressed by financial or social status. They just wanted us kids to be happy... and to be good, kind people.

We Walker kids have been blessed. Their legacy will live on through us.

Thank you, Mom (and Dad) for the privilege of being your daughter. Your unconditional caring, support, kindness and love has meant the world to me throughout my life. I hope to do you proud as I carry on without you here on earth.

Love you both 'to the moon and back'. Until we meet again... take care of each other.

What a beautifully written homage about your dear mom Wendy. Throughout the 15 years we have known each other I’ve heard so many loving and sweet stories about her. She was lucky to have such devoted and doting children - a clear indication of how she expressed her love to you all as well. Her physical presence may be gone but the invisible love you shared will forever be present. With all that love surrounding her, she is indeed resting in peace. β€οΈπŸ™πŸΌπŸ˜‡
