Lilian “Billie” Grace Malloch
Billie Malloch passed peacefully in her room at the Ravines early on the morning of June 4, 2018 at the age of 97. She gave generously to those around her and to those in need, and made a difference to so many. Billie’s home welcomed all thanks to her charm, cooking, hospitality, and ability to make everyone feel like part of the family. Always dressed in a flawlessly coordinated outfit, Billie also had an adventurous side: she moved to Canada in 1945 as a war bride, travelled the country, and tried snowshoeing in her eighties. Her kind soul made a positive impression on everyone she met. Her kindness, caring and generosity were unmatched. Billie was born in London on April 30, 1921. She grew up with three brothers. Her father died in a bombing in London during WWII. Billie worked in a hospital in London. She met the love of her life, Norman Campbell Malloch at a dinner with friends. He was a Canadian soldier posted to wartime England. They were wed in London on September 19, 1942. John was born in 1944. After the war Billie left her home and parents and took two-year-old John to join Cam in Canada. They lived a short time in Arnprior before establishing themselves in Ottawa. Dave was born in 1947. In 1950 they moved to a new veteran’s house on Hudson Avenue. The next year Paul was born. Billie was a dedicated wife to Cam and mother to the three boys. She did everything one could imagine to keep the family running smoothly and make sure everyone had what he needed. They lived in that house together until Cam died in 1998. Billie stayed there until 2011 when she moved into The Ravines Retirement Residence. Billie was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, and her beloved husband Cam. She will be missed by all her who knew her, but especially her family: son John (Eli) and grandchildren Meredith, Erik (Ashley) and great-grandchildren Archer and Riker, Leslie (and great-grandson Spencer Kaas Malloch-MacDonald), and Stacy (Kaara); son Dave (Sharon) and grandchildren Rob (Laura and great-grandchildren Abbigayle, Marissa, and Joshua), Tracey (Kevin and great-grandchildren Rachel, Evan and Kayla), and Bill; and son Paul and grandchildren Carly (Brad and great-granddaughter Alexandra Lillian), Cam (Kayla), and Jesse. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Bridge, and her extensive family in England. Also missing Billie are her wonderful dear friends, Helen, Jane, and Marion. There will be a private interment in Arnprior June 15, followed by a celebration of life Saturday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at Carleton Memorial United Church. Billie and Cam were founding members of CMUC and Billie was the last surviving one. The church is at 740 Melfa Crescent, off Prince of Wales Drive, one long block south of Hogs Back (Meadowlands). There will be refreshments afterwards in the church hall. Special thanks to the fine staff at The Ottawa Civic and The Ravines. In lieu of flowers please donate to CMUC or a charity of your choice.
