<div itemprop="description">Kenneth John Chapman, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Ottawa, Ontario on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Ken was born on November 27, 1945 - the third of twelve children to Frederick Chapman and Bernice Prôt of Ottawa. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree at Carleton University, Ken went on to a distinguished career in the Federal Government. He swiftly progressed from his initial position in the mail room to senior management. Later, his achievements earned him recognition and an appointment to Acting Director for Health and Welfare. During the last five years of his career, he accepted an offer to work in the Department of National Defense. Outside work, Ken was the drummer in the well-known 60s rock and roll band The Scoundrelz. The band's recording of "Heartbreak Hotel" hit #1 on the national charts and as such, he enjoyed some notoriety back in the day. This love of music continued throughout his entire life as he played and explored various instruments. Ken was also an avid gardener, a fisherman and an early advocate for autism. He had a big heart, sharp intellect and playful sense of humour. His love of family was deeply rooted in loyalty and old fashioned values. He will be dearly missed by his best friend of 57 years and loving wife of 51 years, Lorraine (Jo-Jo) Chapman (née Watters); his daughter Honor Chapman; and his grandchildren, Maita Cienska and Jonas Cienski. Their hearts are comforted by the knowledge that his departure will reunite him with his son, Jonas Chapman (predeceased in 1993). Ken will also be missed by many lifelong friends and his surviving brothers, sisters and in-laws. A celebration of his life will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road on Thursday, January 9 at 2 p.m. Donations greatly appreciated to Autism Society Canada.</div>
