In loving memory of a wonderful husband, friend and fierce community champion. <br> <br>After a long brave fight with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH), Harry passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Teri at his side and under the careful watch of the compassionate staff of the West Central Ottawa Hospice. <br> <br>Since his diagnosis with scleroderma-associated PAH in 2012, Harry has been a dedicated and driven leader (Board of Directors) for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada. Many people have been touched by Harry's unwavering commitment to serving his country and his community literally to his last breath. <br> <br>During his distinguished career as a Reserve Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Harry served in Special Forces Operations for over 35 years; then transitioned to lead the post 911 team responsible for creating the Canadian Special Forces Operational Command (CANSOFCOM) secure communications and command structure and later, the Joint Operations Command (JCOC) organization for the RCMP and Privy Council. <br> <br>His best-known local work is volunteering with the Ottawa Police Service. He served as Watch Coordinator for the Centrepointe Neighbourhood Watch program and later as Chair of the Ottawa Neighbourhood Watch Executive Committee. He coached many individual Police Officers for their promotion interviews. He was an active speaker for Crime Prevention and active participant and Speaker for the Ottawa Police Services Board. He was also an active volunteer for Kin Canada, local community associations and his church (The Bridge Church, Kanata). <br> <br>Known to many as “Mr. Toastmaster”, a leader among leaders and a dedicated educator and mentor. He coached hundreds of Toastmaster, helping them to reach their goals as leaders and communicators. Harry is recognized across Canada as one of the most senior and experienced members within the Toastmaster International organization. His three years on the District 61 leadership team started the year he was diagnosed yet he persevered and proudly served as District Governor in 2014-2015. He began his 49th year of dedicated service to the organization in the first week of February 2017. <br> <br>He loved hunting and fishing and spending time on his beloved Rideau Canal on a variety of boats. Harry was a kind and loving man who had the gift of making everyone feel they were special. He will be greatly missed. <br> <br>Harry leaves behind his beloved wife Teri, her children Danielle and Marc, and legions of friends. <br> <br>Friends are invited to visit at The Bridge –Kanata, 285 Roger Neilson Way, Kanata, on Monday, July 3rd from 2 to 4pm and 5 to 7pm. The service will take place at the church on Tuesday, July 4th at 11am with reception to follow. <br> <br>For those wishing, donations may be made to Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada (PHA) or The Bridge Church. <br> <br> <br></div>
