It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Freda Margaret Pattison on Thursday September 21, 2017 at the age of 74. Beloved wife of Arthur M. Pattison.

Loving mother to Peter (Jennifer) of Ottawa, Christina (Trent) of Australia, Rebecca (Adam Axford) of Ottawa and Paul (Diana) of Toronto. Cherished grandmother to Lauren, Megan, Neeve, Emily and Simon.

She will be greatly missed by all her siblings Spencer, Brenda, Sandra, Stephen, and Stanley.

Freda was born June 7, 1943 to Lloyd and Jean (nee Todd) Estabrooks in Laval, Montreal, but grew up in Peterborough, Ontario. After graduating from Peterborough Teachers College in 1961 Freda became a teacher in Toronto for 5 years before meeting her future husband at a youth rally at Markham, Ontario in September 1965. After three dates, they were married in Peterborough on August 24, 1966. She then taught at Queen Elizabeth public School in Ottawa for 2 years before moving to Toronto with her husband, enabling him to attend Knox (Theological) College. In 1971, as a new mother she moved with Arthur to Barrie, Ontario, when he became the minister of Essa Road Presbyterian Church. After 3 years, Arthur accepted a call to St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. As a mother of 4 children, she then became a volunteer at her children's school, St Monica’s Roman Catholic School, later a supply teacher, and finally a permanent teacher for 15 years, (even though she was a Protestant). She was dearly loved by all her students and respected by all her fellow teachers. After 25 years of teaching, she retired in 2003. During many of those summers she was the beloved Director of the Childrens Camps at Camp IAWAH, near Westport, Ontario. She was also very active in the life of St Paul’s Church, even being the Presbyterian President of the Women's Missionary Society in 1977, while also giving birth to her one of her children the same year. In 2010, Arthur reluctantly agreed to have her moved to the Glebe Centre, where she finally died after a long and noble struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Her wonderful caring and vibrant personality will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially by her husband and children, who have the assurance she is now in a far better place with her Lord, waiting for us the Gates of Heaven.

A Memorial Service celebrating Freda’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 28th at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church (971 Woodroffe Avenue, just North of the Queensway).
