Dr. Francesca L'Orfano Ph.D.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden death on Sunday, October 2, 2016 of our loving sister Francesca. Francesca was the dear daughter of the late Salvatore and Amalia (Gatto).
Deeply mourning are her two young children Matteo and Malia, her sisters Maria (Tony Spagnuolo), Natalina (Sadegh Djavani-Tabrizi), Rosalba (Keith Fulton) and her brother Domenico (Elena). She is pre-deceased by her sister Teresa Talia. She will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, David, Madeline, Iden, Nicholas, Lucia, Pasquale, Domenica, Agostino, Rosa, Marcello, Giovanna, and the late Antonio. Also survived by many dear cousins, aunts, uncles and relatives in Canada, Italy and Australia.

Francesca had a strong sense of family and her biggest passion was being a mother to Matteo and Malia. Francesca was a dedicated and resourceful Art and English high school teacher at the Ottawa Carleton District School Board for many years. She was also a talented and creative artist with many of her works highlighting our Italian culture and the importance of how we reflect our culture as proud Canadians. Francesca earned her Ph.D. in Canadian Studies; her academic research also connected the Canadian living experience with the positive impact of the Italian culture.

Friends may pay respects at the Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Monday, October 10th from 3pm until 8pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at Madonna Della Risurrezione, 1621 Fisher Avenue, Ottawa on Tuesday, October 11th at 11a.m. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Hospital Heart Institute, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
