<div itemprop="description">Passed away on Monday, August 20th, 2018, with her family by her side at the age of 85 years. Beloved wife of Gunther for 63 years. Loving mother of Catherine (Paul) and David. Devoted Grandma of Noah, Adrian, Hanna and Ryan. Predeceased by her brothers Wolfgang and Peter Spittler. Proud aunt of numerous nieces and nephews in Germany, Switzerland and Peru. <br> <br>Evelyn was born in 1933 in Lisbon, Portugal. She married Gunther in 1955 in Germany, and that same year moved to Canada. They settled in Manitoba, living in small towns before settling down in Winnipeg, and then finally moving to Ottawa in 1967. As well as being a full time mother she also managed the Cash Office at Sears Carlingwood for many years. <br> <br>Evelyn enjoyed travel and adventure. Over the years she visited many places including China, Eastern Europe, the UK and the USA, with regular visits to Peru and Germany. <br> <br>Evelyn had a passion and a talent for gardening. In the summer she could always be found in her beautiful backyard garden and in the winter in her greenhouse with her lovely orchids. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with friends and exploring the city with Gunther. She was an accomplished bridge player and played with various clubs for years. She loved the theatre and was a regular attendee at the NAC and the GCTC. She also travelled to Stratford, the Shaw Festival, as well as theatres in Montreal, Toronto and New York. She was an enthusiastic volunteer with Friends of English Theatre for many years. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. <br> <br>A reception will be held at the Pinecrest Reception Center, 2500 Baseline Road on Saturday, September 8th from 2pm to 5pm. <br> <br>Special thanks to Dr. Wu of the Queensway Carleton Hospital and also Dr. Chouinard, Dr. Raymond, Ben, Rahul and all the caring and compassionate doctors, nurses and staff members at Saint Vincent Hospital.
