In Celebration of

Ernest Sellers

March 20, 1943 -  October 3, 2020

Ernie Sellers passed away suddenly on October 3, 2020. He grew up in Fort William, Ontario, and later moved to Ottawa to begin his over 30 year career as a secondary school teacher. He taught Economics, History and Co-op first at Merivale and subsequently at Confederation High School.

Ernie travelled the world during his lifetime and was also lucky to have had many interesting hobbies, including showing miniature schnauzers and creating new varieties of daylilies. He loved nature documentaries, music, great food, all things chocolate, Downtown Abbey, celebrity gossip and family time with his girls.

Ernie was always happiest at home and he will be fondly remembered for his quick boisterous laugh, love for passionate debate and for his forever curious nature.

He is survived by his wife Pauline and their daughter Melinda, his mother Jean, his sisters Helen (Jack) and Susan, and his nieces Laura (Stephen) and Anna. He was predeceased by his father Ernest and his sisters Carol and Lois.

The family gives their sincere thanks to the staff of the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their professionalism, care and compassion.

In accordance with Ernie’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.

Donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, the Canadian Lung Association, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Mr. Sellers was a memorable and favourite teacher of mine at Confederation High School in the 70’s. He married another favourite teacher of mine. I thank them both for being part of my high school years and education. My thoughts are with the family.

Ernie will dearly be missed. His presence when he walked in a room seemed magical. I am truly so very sorry for your loss Pauline and family.
