Peacefully at the Alta Vista Retirement Community January 20. Survived by his beloved wife Elise Ziegler. Much loved father of Anette (late Gerard Legault), Marianne (late James Sheridan), Ulla (Tom Potter), Mark (Bonnie Ziegler), and Tina (Stefan Zaichkowski). "Morfar" will be missed by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. After a distinguished career as a senior economist with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Immigration Canada, Dr. Ziegler became the first Chair of the Refugee Status Review Committee. He was seconded to the Australian government from 1980-82, as a special advisor on immigration policy in Canberra. “Far” enjoyed a well-deserved retirement with his cherished wife of 71 years. He was a world traveled linguist, avid reader, gardener and athlete. He was a compassionate, honest mensch who possessed a vast knowledge of global socio-economic, political and historical events. A Celebration of Edgar's Life will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa) Saturday January 24, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. We wish to thank MLC Health Care Services, as well as the staff at Alta Vista. In lieu of flowers donations to the Jewish National Fund will be appreciated by the family (www.jnf.org).
