David Hughes
November 26, 1933 - November 1, 2018

Kind heart, a unique sense of humour, hero and role model, avid aircraft enthusiast, dog lover, and gentle soul. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of David at Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in Kanata. Best friend and loving husband of 62 years to Denise (Smith). Playful father and outstanding role model to his children - Diane Hammond (Stephen), Michael Hughes (Theresa), Alan Hughes (Lisa), and Brenda MacIntosh (Dave). Sadly predeceased by two children - Linda Martel (Bob) and Gary Hughes. "Poppa" will live on in his 10 grandchildren - Christine, David (Meaghan), Brent (Alicia), Lisa (Shawn), Derek (Megan), Nicole (Nathan), Jeffrey, Skylar, Phillip and Mitchel, and his 4 great-grandchildren - Owen, Emery, Josie and Quinton. Son of the late Bernard and Helen Hughes, and devoted brother to Elsie Robert (Don), the late Helen Lamothe (Denis) and brother-in-law Des Smith (Nancy). Will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. David spent his early years as a member of the RCAF, working as an aircraft technician and this led to a lifetime of designing, building and flying model airplanes. He was a member of the Dunrobin RC Flying Club. He was also a gifted locksmith and spent a good part of his career at the Bank of Canada from where he retired. A celebration of David's life will be held on Monday, November 5 at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Rd Ottawa) at 1 p.m. A reception will follow in the Pinecrest Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in recognition of their compassionate care. https://www.hospicecareottawa.ca/donate.html
