It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Darshana Khandu Patel on Sunday February 18, 2018 in Ottawa, Ontario at the age of 67. “Galu” died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital.

Taken from us far too soon, she will be greatly missed by her beloved husband Khandubhai (K.C) Patel and adoring children Darpan (Dina) and Nilam (Shaun). She leaves in sorrow her beautiful granddaughter Jiya Lamba. Loving sister of Binduben (Parbhubhai), Bipinbhai (Kalpanaben), Kiranben (Harishbhai), Girishbhai (Geetaben). Predeceased by her mother Dhaniben, father Hirabhai, sister Kantaben, and cherished son Parash. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A devoted wife and mother, there is nothing she loved more than spending time with her family. She has been a pillar of strength and has brought such joy and love into our lives. Her beautiful smile, witty sense of humor, and the values and life lessons she shared with us have been and will continue to be our inspiration in life.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the doctors and nurses that cared for Darshana at the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre and most recently at the Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital (Palliative Care, 5th floor, wing B) who made Darshana’s final days comfortable, allowing her to pass with dignity and care.

Friends and family are invited to pay respect to Darshana on Friday February 23th from 10am to 12pm at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in Darshana’s name to the Bruyère Foundation would be greatly appreciated. https://www.bruyere.org/en/bruyere-foundation

Mom

My mom…She is more than just a memory. She is a living presence.
My mother…she is always with me.
She is the whisper of the wind and leaves as you walk down the street.
She is the cool hand over your eyebrow when you’re not feeling well.
She is the smell of certain foods you remember and that certain perfume she wore.
She is the cool air you feel on a cold winter’s day.
She is the sound of the falling rain that sounds like a lullaby, the colors of the rainbow, a ray of sunshine beaming through the curtains.
She is Christmas morning.
My mother lives inside of my laughter, that hard, deep laughter that makes you want to cry.
She is in every gleaming tear drop. She is every tear of joy and sorrow.
My mother has shown every emotion – happiness, fear, excitement, joy, sadness, love and hate…and all the while, she is hoping you will only know the good feelings in life.

She is the place you came from, your first home.
My mother is the map of every step that I take.
She is my first love, my first friend. She is my protector.
Nothing can separate me from my mother. Not time or space.
I am my mother. She lives within me. She may be gone, but she is never forgotten.
