<div itemprop="description">Alexander Ross Mack <br> <br>Passed away peacefully at Civic Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario on Sunday March 17th, 2019 at the age of 91. Son of the late Ernest and Ella Mack. Dear husband of the late Shirley. Loving father of Robert Alexander (London, UK), David Ross (Ruth, Ottawa), Bruce Andrew (Andrea, Etobicoke) and Diane Elizabeth (Phil, Hamilton, ON). Beloved grandfather of Amanda, Stephanie, Sara, Rachel and Caitlin. Alex was predeceased by his sisters Elaine Bieck (2015, Al), Etobicoke, On and Margaret Wetherill, and brothers Austin (1964) and Daniel (2006), all of Neepawa, MB.<br> <br>He was born at home, May 6 ,1927 in the Oberon District, Manitoba and attended the Brookdale High School and the University of Manitoba (Agriculture 1949). After graduation, he conducted field experiments on Illustration Stations in the Melfort area of North-eastern Saskatchewan with the Experimental Farm Service, Agriculture Canada and received a Master’s Degree at the University of Iowa. <br><br>He then was transferred to Ottawa where he married Dorothy Shirley Robertson (1955) and later graduated from Purdue University, Indiana (PhD). Returning to Ottawa he joined the Research Branch, Agriculture Canada researching the relationships of soils and weather on crop production. He was seconded to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for evaluating crop production capability in countries of East Africa. When the first satellite imagery became available in Canada in 1971, he worked with the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing for application of spectral (Landsat) and radar imagery for land use and crop growth. Following retirement in 1991, he continued studying spectral properties of soils and crops and developed a patented imaging device for showing sprayer operators the boundaries of areas sprayed.<br><br>A Funeral Service will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Rd, Ottawa on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. <br></div>
